I heard a particular term used to describe the fighting technique in which the attacker or defender uses objects in their immediate surroundings to defend themselves. (Similarly to Jason Bourne, Michael Weston [of USA Network's "Burn Notice"], MacGyver and sometimes Jackie Chan)
I can't recall the term; does anyone know what I'm referring to?
What is the technical name for the fighting technique in which you objects as improvised weapons to defend?
It sounds like you are talking about weapons of opportunity. There is no specifically named technique for it. Mainly you just pick up an object and, if you have trained in a martial art that uses weapons, you use whatever technique best fits the object. If you have no training, then you just figure out what would work. Most of is semi-instinctive. If you pick up a pool cue, you don鈥檛 need training to know you can swing it like a base ball bat or thrust like a spear. I hope this helps.

Does anybody know the name for a product that comes in a jar mainly containing cauliflower?
I think there's a name for this product that starts with the letter G, but I can't remember it. It usually has cauliflower, celery, maybe small onions, etc.

Looks kind of like an ancient egyptian hairstyle. Basically the hair around the head is long, straight and cut evenly, maybe a little past shoulder length, but in the front right above the eyebrows it's cut in a straight line so the person can see forward. What is the name of my hearing condition?
I am a 25 year old male. My hearing is fine- and everything sounds just as loud today as it has any other day of my life. My problem is that for the last decade or so I have been having difficulty distinguishing between sounds. I hear a word and it sounds like gibberish because it could be any number of other words- or I listen to any given song and cannot tell at all what is being sung about (this happens with most songs for me even if they are turned up). I don't think my problem is ear related as much as it is brain related due to my inability to make sense of the information coming in. I also have trouble hearing what specifically someone is saying if there is background noise due to the conflict of sounds. Is there a name for what I have- and if so, could someone post a link so I can read up on it? Thanks.

Hello; I am an Audiologist.
There are two likely possibilities:
1) High-frequency sensorineural hearing loss. Yes, you PERCEIVE that your hearing has not changed, yet hearing loss typically fades so gradually that it is imperceptible, and what your hear still seems 'normal' to you. You can still distinguish tonal changes with a mild-to-moderate degree of loss, but the unvoiced consonant (p, h, s, f, th, t,) sounds are not heard. In quiet, and especially with people you know well, your brain will be able to fill in the blanks of what your ear misses. But in noisy/group environments or with people who have a different accent, you will find it more difficult to guess at what has been said.
2) Auditory Processing Disorder- This is when the ears do have normal sensitivity, but the brain pathways are not able to effectively process what is heard. This most often is noticed in grade school, typically as difficulty following multi-step directions and distinguishing letter sounds in phonics/spelling, as well as others. Many of these children are misdiagnosed as ADD/ADHD (so it is not surprising that someone else suggested it). It is also seen in people who have had a stroke or other forms of brain damage/injury.
The best thing to do is to start with a comprehensive Audiological examination to assess your hearing acuity. If that is determine to be within normal limits, you can ask about an Auditory Processing assessment. Not all hearing centers do this, and many insurance companies do not cover it. If you live near a university or hospital with an Audiology program, you might want to go there.

Reply:Make an appointment with an audiologist you may have a slight hearing loss .I know exactly what you mean about interpreting stuff , I have had the same sensation and the audiologist where I work said I my hearing was at the lower end of a normal range , even that is enough to make it tricky to 'get' everything.Mine was due to middle ear congestion -allergies-which I managed to clear with bisolvon , an OTC product from chemist.The ears not the allergies !!
Your comment about conflict of sounds due to background noise is a classic indication for mild hearing loss .. A doctor could also rule out neural problems.
Reply:Your hearing defect is TONE DEAFNESS because you hear and cannot understand. I dont know how it is to be corrected but refraining from taking intoxicated liquor or caffeine. I have the same problem but it started when a young girl.

You can still distinguish tonal changes with a mild-to-moderate degree of loss, but the unvoiced consonant (p, h, s, f, th, t,) sounds are not heard. In quiet, and especially with people you know well, your brain will be able to fill in the blanks of what your ear misses. But in noisy/group environments or with people who have a different accent, you will find it more difficult to guess at what has been said.
2) Auditory Processing Disorder- This is when the ears do have normal sensitivity, but the brain pathways are not able to effectively process what is heard. This most often is noticed in grade school, typically as difficulty following multi-step directions and distinguishing letter sounds in phonics/spelling, as well as others. Many of these children are misdiagnosed as ADD/ADHD (so it is not surprising that someone else suggested it). It is also seen in people who have had a stroke or other forms of brain damage/injury.
The best thing to do is to start with a comprehensive Audiological examination to assess your hearing acuity. If that is determine to be within normal limits, you can ask about an Auditory Processing assessment. Not all hearing centers do this, and many insurance companies do not cover it. If you live near a university or hospital with an Audiology program, you might want to go there.

Your comment about conflict of sounds due to background noise is a classic indication for mild hearing loss .. A doctor could also rule out neural problems.

Joe Biden will cause a train wreck at some point. None of the others will help turn back McCain's momentum. Unfortunately for Obama, Hillary is the wild card that might save him, it seems to me. Comments?

I don't know that McCain has all that much momentum. He has his own skeletons. The Russia-Georgia conflict helps him, as do slumping gas prices.
All of this is still premature. It is unlikely, though not improbable that Hillary gets the nomination. Stranger things have happened.
I know she is a bit of a dark horse, but I like Kathleen Sebelius. She is more moderate than either Clinton or Obama, which is help he needs. Plus she could help him with mid-western voters, whom the Democrats have not had much luck with lately. And she brings the female factor, which is not to underestimated. A lot of women are still fuming over Hillary's treatment by the media and the DNC. Though in fairness to those two groups, Madam Clinton brought a lot of that on herself. Travel Insurance sold in conjunction with a trip e.g. by a travel agent is not currently regulated (but will be in 2009) and extended warranties sold at the same time as electrical goods is not regulated. (Good lobbying there) Recently Insurance by Freight Forwarders has been excluded from regulation. Some firms who are regulated by a recognised professional body (RPB) e.g. solicitors/ accountants don't have to be regulated by the FSA.
As a broker the administrative effects of regulation is a pain. For a 拢20.00 travel insurance quote I have to assess your requirements, produce a statement of those requirements, a recommendation, asons for my recommendation, give you a policy summary/ key facts document, an initial disclosure document, a policy document.
One member of our fraternity predicted that in a few years only the wealthy would be able to get insurance advice because it would be so costly. For the rest - buy online and take your chances. (Policies are getting worse by the day as everyone tries to cut corners to offer cheaper rates - you have been warned)

I am trying to find the name of the rock that can create sparks to make a fire. When you rub the rocks together, it can create a spark which can be used to make a fire. I know it was used in some small villages to make a fire to cook things.

Alot of Mounted Police use Morgan or draft horses. Without a picture it's hard to say. I live in NM, about 3.5 hours from Albuquerque actually. :-)
Reply:Maybe Shire/Thoroughbred or some kind of Warmblood or light horse/ heavy horse cross.
Reply:Found a photo; one looked like a draft/quarter horse...others looked like QH, interesting in the photos I saw most looked black or a very dark bay....

I am trying to buy something for my husband, but I don't know what they are called..... can you help?
These stand were around a few decades ago, and I am looking for one.
It is a peice of furniture. It has (almost like a coat hanger) arms at the top for mans suit jacket, and just under that is a pole that goes across for pants to hang over, and down lower there is a seat or a ledge for mens shoes etc.
Can someone please help and tell me what they are called (and if anyone has seen one, where you can get one from)

Reply:Everyone who's telling you "valet" or "gentleman's valet" is correct. I bought one for my husband a few years ago from Bombay Company. Can't remember how much it cost, but it has held up pretty well.
