Is putting your own name on a soccer jersey a soccer faux pau?

I was planning on buying a new Arsenal soccer jersey. Everytime I put one of our players names/numbers on the back, they were sold, promptly there after. (i.e. Thierry Henry who was sold, days after I bought his jersey.) So I am considering buying the Arsenal jersey with my name on the back and my number. Is that a faux pau?

I don't want to look pretentious and like a wannabe, but I dont just want to get a plain jersey either. HELP! any imput is appreciated.

No. It is your money. Fans have the right to do whatever they want with the jerseys that they buy. Who cares if some idiots think you are pretentious? Surely, people with some common sense would agree.
Reply:I would... if my surname were Berbatov...
Reply:No, it is not a "faux pau" for two reasons. The first is simply because you ought to do what you feel best with. Lots of people have their names on a jersey and what really matters is that you are expressing your support for that club. The second reason is that "faux pas" (false step) is the correct spelling...!
